I’ve been working on this baby mobile for a couple of weeks (and thinking about it for much longer than that!) and I’m so happy with the end result. Each piece is hand cut and shaped from solid poplar, purple heart, yellow heart, and padauk with wood burning and gold leaf details. The wood is all finished with non toxic tung oil and shellac and the cord and hoop wrapping are organic cotton twine tied in macrame knots. It’s been a heck of a lot of work and I’ve learned a lot of new skills (working with exotic hardwoods, gilding, macrame) and so glad it’s finally finished! #woodartist #powercarving #macrame

It’s been a while since I’ve made any wood art, and I really enjoyed getting back to it today. Sitting out in the sunshine transferring this continuous line drawing of my older daughter onto some 10x10 birch ply ready for wood burning was the most relaxed I think I’ve been in weeks! #pyrography #woodart #woodburning #

Every piece I make is unique and special, starting from a hand-drawn design and entirely handmade from solid wood. I love the way that the different grain patterns give movement and dimension to pieces, and I try as much as possible to let the natural grain of the wood show through. I’m inspired by nature, poetry, and the stories people tell about people, places, and events that have meaning for them.
